Kirkland Signature By Stearns & Foster

Not every day you see a hybrid mattress under $1,000 that carries the Stearns and Foster name. The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge sits at $999 for a queen, a price that puts it well below its hybrid competition while still offering buyers a Costco-backed return policy and 14.5 inches of construction that very few brands can match.

But does this value hold up when you really sleep on it? This review takes you through everything you need to know before deciding to buy

What is Kirkland Signature Lakeridge?

What is Kirkland Signature Lakeridge?

The Kirkland Signature Lakridge is a 14.5-inch hybrid mattress sold exclusively at Costco. It combines various foams such as poly Foam, memory foam, and individually pocketed coils to create a medium feel, which is rated 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It is also available at $999 and king or cal king at $1,199. It ships in a box, includes handles for positioning, and is fiberglass-free, which is a very important detail for buyers who have followed the fiberglass contamination issues affecting other boxed mattresses.

When was Kirkland Signature introduced?

Costco introduced the mattress in late 2020, replacing the previous Kirkland Hope Bay Model, which had a very similar construction to this model but has since been discontinued.

Who makes the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge?

Despite carrying ht private label of Costco, the Lakeridge is not actually made by them, but Sealy manufactures it. The law tag on the mattress identifies the manufacturer as Sealy Mattress, 1130 Seventh St, Richmond, CA 94801. It is made for Stearns and Foster, which itself is a Foster Brand, operating out of One Office Parkay at Sealy Drive, Trinity, NC 27370.

If we talk about Stearns and Foster, then they are one of the most established premium mattress brands in the United States with over 175 years of manufacturing history. So, the Kirkland Lakerbridge gives buyers access to Sealy and Stearns and Foster’s manufacturing at a price significantly below what those brands typically command in retail.

Firmness and Feel

Medium feel at 5 out of 10. Slightly softer than the most popular medium firm at 6 out of 10 but supportive across all sleeping positions and body weights up to 300 pounds. The sinkage depth of 2.73 inches is quite a lot deeper than the hybrid average of 2.13 inches. The thick, quieted cover and layered foam create an enveloping feel rather than the more floating-on-top sensation most hybrids produce. One firmness option only; no soft or firm alternative available.

Mattress Layers what is inside Lakeridge?

The Lakeridge gas six layers from to p to bottom:

  • A 2.5 inch quilted Tencel cover which is one ofthe plushest quilted covers in this price range followed by 1 inch of poly foam.
  • Below that sits 7.25 inches of individually pocketed coils with two rows of reinforced edge suppor coils running the perimeter, finished with a 1 inch support foam base.
  • The full comfort layer totals 6.25 inches which is significantly thicker than the hybrid average of 4.1 inch. That thickness is one source of mattress best qualities and it’s most significant drawbacks.

Performance- An Honest Breakdown

Kirkland Signature

Cooling: Fair

This can be said the weakest category of this mattress. Maximum surface temperature reached 90.8 degrees Fahrenheit which is 1..2 degrees warmer than the average hybrid. No gel infusion, No layer for cooling, no phase change material is present anywhere in the construction of this mattress. The Tencel cover breathes but it is not capable of compensating for the heat retained by the thick foam system above the coils.

Motion Transfer: Above Average

This is one th strengths f this mattress. The mattress measured 8.09 m/s. The Thick comfort layers absorbs energy before it reached the coil system . For couples where one partner is restless this can be considered a meaningful advantage at this price.

Edge Support:Good

Two rows of reinforced perimeter coils deliver sitting compression of exactly 4.0 inches against an average of 4.03 inches which essentially matches the category average. And the lying edge support rated excellent at both 140 and 200 pound test weights. The full mattress width is genuinely usable which matters for couples sharing the bed.

Bounce: Low

Total bounce height of 6.99 inches versus the hybrid average of 9.68 inches . This is the mechanical reason the mattress underperforms on sex. Low bounce reduces responsiveness and makes the movement more effortful. The same from thickness that creates low bounce. These two factors are inseparable in this construction.

OffGasing: Strong

Initial smell is strong and takes 8 days to fully dissipate, which is 2 days longer than the hybrid average of 6 days. It is advised to unbox in a ventilated space and at least allow 48 to 72 hours before sleeping on it.

Who Should Buy It and Who Should Not

Buy it if: You sleep with a restless partner, want a hybrid under $1000 and need low motion transfer, value strong edge support, or simply want the security of Costco’s effectively unlimited return policy behind your purchase.

Don’t buy if: You sleep hot because then this mattress will make it worse. You prioritise bounce,, as the 6.99-inch bounce is comparatively very low. You are concerned about the long-term durability because the foam quality does not inspire confidence for 8-10 years of performance.

Pros and Cons of Kirkland Signature

Pros:

  • Under $1000 queen, which is 25% below hybrid average price
  • Sealy manufactured for Stearns and Foster
  • Above Average motion Transfer
  • Good edge support with reinforced perimeter coils
  • 365-night, effectively unlimited return through Costco
  • Fiberglass-Free
  • Free Shipping

Cons:

  • Below average cooling with no cooling features whatsoever
  • Low bounce which impacts your comfort
  • Slow full material recovery at 1.9 seconds, which is double the hybrid average
  • Foam Quality concerns for long-term durability
  • Strong off-gassing lasting 8 days
  • 10-year warranty only
  • Single firmness medium only
  • No Twin

Conclusion

The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge is a genuinely compelling value or a specific typre of buyer. Someone who wants a hybrid mattress under $1000, values low motion transfer, needs strong edge support, and appreciates the security of Costco’s essentially unlimited return policy. For that buyer, it is difficult to beat at the price.

For anyone who sleeps warm, prioritises bounce, or is concerned about long-term foam durability, the Lakeridge’s weaknesses are real enough to consider alternatives like the Helix Midnight or Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite. The price advantage narrows considerably once those performance gaps are factored into the decision.
